How to reduce body fat? Stop Dieting and Exercising

It’s been weeks now. You have been sticking to a fab new diet. Exercising day in and day out. You’re waiting for the fat to dissolve and unveil the new you. You’ve been doing things the right way. Eating right, exercising right, should get rid of belly fat. Right? WRONG!

There’s more to fat loss than meets the eye. And that’s precisely why you are initially a fat burner but end up regaining it too. It’s a vicious cycle that you desperately wish to break out of.  Losing weight or more specifically losing belly fat, depends on many factors, especially for women in the 35 to 60 age group.

Fat is Important, Excess Fat is Dangerous

Apart from water, minerals, and protein, our body contains fat to help in its smooth functioning. In addition to the fat content in our vital organs, our body also stores it for emergencies. A moderate amount of stored fat is good for the body, as it protects the internal organs, and helps keep the body warm.

Fat stored around the internal organs is known as visceral fat, while the fats located just below the skin surface, are known as subcutaneous fatThe problem comes when the proportion of visceral and subcutaneous fats in the body is higher than acceptable levelsApart from piling on the belly fat, excess visceral fat can lead to potential health risks such as heart disease or diabetes

Why Fat Loves Clinging to Women

You could blame it on biology, but women have a natural or genetic disposition to accumulate more body fat in comparison to menWhen it comes to body fat composition, women should ideally have between 21 and 24 percent, whereas the figure varies between 14 and 17 percent of fat for men. This is because women require sufficient energy reserves to cope with the demands of pregnancy and nursing their children until they are old enough.

In order to stay healthy, women require a minimum of 10 percent body fat – unlike the men who can afford to cut their overall body fat content down to 2 percent.

The Apples and Pears of Fat Loss

Body fat deposit patterns differ substantially for women and men. While men are described as being apple-shaped, women are said to be pear-shaped – thanks to their propensity to store fat in the lower abdomen, hips, buttocks as well as thighs.

When it comes to fat loss, women too differ from men. Here, it is the inherent hormone levels that play the mischief. The testosterone in men contributes to higher muscle mass and greater resting metabolic rates – which essentially means that men are better fat burners than women when they are resting. In a weight reduction scenario, women end up losing 1-2 pounds less weight per week on average than their male counterparts despite both following a similar diet plan and physical activity regimens.

The Myth of Crash Diets and Fad Diets

Almost everyone is guilty of having tried out a crash diet at least once. Often, when you’re short on time and high on weight-loss expectations, you instinctively turn to crash diets for help.

It typically involves entirely cutting out food groups like carbohydrates or worse – starving yourself to get rid of belly fat in a jiffy just so you can wriggle into that lovely dress for a special occasion. While crash diets do give fast and encouraging results in the short term, they pose potential health risks when you continue with them for prolonged periods.

Potential risks of such diets include dehydration, lower metabolic rates, fluctuating blood pressure levels, hormonal imbalances, reduced immunity as well as diabetes.

The No-exercise, No-diet Route to Fat Loss

Too good to be true? Not quite.

Whether you’re an efficient fat burner or not, you do have easy, safe, and effective alternatives for achieving fat lossThanks to the wonders of modern science, by using energy induced by high temperatures, or extremely low temperaturesthere are non-invasive procedures that successfully target fat cells in specific parts of the body and eliminate them naturally by the body’s lymphatic system.

SculpSure (Warm Sculpting)

SculpSure is a laser-based treatment that has received FDA-clearances for use in fatreduction proceduresIn a process called apoptosis, the energy released by the laser beam gently heats the subcutaneous fat cells. Under high heat, the fat cells begin to break down. The damaged fat cells are then flushed out through natural disposal systems over the course of a few weeks

In this non-invasive procedure, laser technology is utilized to melt down unwanted fat cells without causing damage to the tissue in the vicinity. Under the induction of the high temperatures, the fat cells in the targeted area are heated to temperatures between 42°C and 47°C. The application of the heat results in damage to the fat cells’ structure. Thereafter, the fat is then gradually expelled by the body’s disposal system.

How does SculpSure work?

Target

Targeted laser energy heats fat cells under the skin without affecting the skin’s surface.

Destroy

By inducing high temperatures from 43 to 47 °C, SculpSure is able to damage the structural integrity of the targeted fat cells.

Eliminate

Over the next three months post-treatment, the damaged fat cells are processed and eliminated by the body’s lymphatic system.

Results

Fat cells are permanently removed and will not regenerate. Results can be seen as quickly as six weeks, and optimal result are typically most significant at the 12 week mark.

Equipped with up to four flat applicators, the SculpSure system is versatile when it comes to tackling love handles. The applicators can be used in different configurations – individually, in combination, one after the other, or simultaneously.

This versatility allows the therapy to be customized according to individual requirements.

SculpSure not only works to target stubborn fat cells but also is effective in treating stretch marks and skin laxity. The induced heat from the laser thermolysis is able to penetrate deep into the skin, stimulating collagen production which tightens and firms the skin, resulting in the appearance of smoother skin on the surface.

CoolSculpting™

This FDA-approved procedure uses a process called Cryolipolysis which targets and removes unwanted fat cells by the induction of extremely low temperatures. When exposed to temperatures as low as -13°C, the targeted fat cells crystallize and die. These dead fat cells are then flushed out of the body through the lymphatic system.

With an array of applicators, there’s one for every unique contour. For instance, the CoolCurve+ Advantage applicator is ideal for stubborn flanks.

The applicator snugly curves around the sides of your waist giving it a better grip while maximizing the surface area coverage. There are also other applicators such as the CoolCore for sculpting the waist and sides of the body and as for the un-pinchable areas, the CoolSmooth Pro applicator just does the job.

Many of us have stubborn fat despite diet and exercise.

CoolSculpting® technology uses controlled cooling, inducing temperatures from -10 to -13 °C to target the stubborn fat cells without harming the surrounding tissues.

In the weeks to follow, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells.

CoolSculpting procedure results are long-term1, as treated fat cells are gone for good.

Complementary Treatments

Sometimes, complementary treatments have to be used in conjunction with the main fat removal treatments in order to achieve the most desired results.

Whether it is to treat skin laxity after the fat has been removed, or improve lymphatic drainage to accelerate the breakdown of fat post-treatment, complementary treatments will often be advised to observe more significant results for our patients.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Body contouring is not meant to be a weight reduction program for people who are grossly overweight or obese. Body contouring aims to achieve defined body contours by getting rid of the stubborn fat cells that are resistant to conventional solutions like diet control and exercise.

Body contouring is for you, if:

  • You are relatively healthy
  • You can grab at least an inch of fat, from the desired area, between your thumb and index finger;
  • You are not pregnant
  • You have stubborn pockets of fat resistant to healthy diet and regular exercise

To learn more about which type of fat reduction modalities will be suitable for you and if you are a good candidate for this non-surgical fat reduction procedure, schedule an appointment with us today.

The body contouring works equally well for both men and women. The treatment is customisable to cater to every individual’s body shape and needs.

Step 1: Consultation – During the consultation, Dr. Kenneth Thean or Dr. Chiam will first understand your area of concern and your fat reduction goals. Your designated doctor will then explain the science behind the technology, walk through with you on the type of procedure that will be suitable for you, the results you can expect from the treatment and answer any questions that you may have.

Step 2: Body Assessment – Before we begin any treatment, our Master Body Sculptor will first conduct a comprehensive body assessment that consists of an InBody weight and body fat analysis, 2D position baseline photographs, tape circumferential measurements, and caliper readings. Once the assessment is complete, a tailored treatment plan will then be crafted.

Step 3: Treatment – The appropriate applicators will be placed onto the area within the planned framework as marked. During the first few minutes, you will feel slight pressure and an intense cold on your skin. The cold will begin to subside after a few minutes and the area will feel numb. As the technology only focuses on freezing fat cells, the other tissues will not be affected.

Step 4: After treatment – After the treatment has been completed, a non-invasive shockwave therapy that uses low-energy acoustic wave pulsations is applied onto the treated areas to break up the fat cells. This also helps to enhance circulation and stimulates lymphatic drainage, which increases the elimination of destroyed fat cells.

Step 5: Review – The follow-up appointment is later scheduled within a week after the treatment, followed by 30 days, 60 days and, 90 days. Every follow-up session, we will repeat the photograph taking, objective circumferential and caliper measurements of the targeted area, and observing the quality of the skin post-treatment.

For patients who have had a large volume of fat removed, complementary treatments might be advised to treat the loose skin. They will undergo a skin tightening treatment that uses special microwave technology to induce immediate shrinkage of the collagen fibers in the dermis and stimulate collagen production which helps to make the tissues firmer and tighter.

After the treatment has been completed, our Body Sculptor will review the before and after images and the overall fat reduction loss with our patients.

The overall CoolSculpting treatment takes about 35 to 45 minutes* for each applicator to complete. Patients can expect up to 27%* reduction in fat.

A detailed body assessment is critical, as the more accurate the measurements are, we are able to recommend a comprehensive, precise treatment plan based on the patient’s anatomy and deliver the best results for our patients.

The objective of this tool is to provide transparency and valuable insights into our patient’s body transformation as well as assist the patient to keep track of their progress.

Once the fat cells have been treated, they will be excreted from the body permanently. However, maintenance through the implementation of a healthy diet and an active lifestyle is always advised post-treatment.

As every patient is different, it varies from person to person as each of us is different in terms of physical proportions, problem areas, genetic makeup, and dietary habits. A clear picture of treatment requirements will emerge after a personal consultation with Dr. Kenneth Thean and a body assessment complete by our Body Sculptor. Based on the findings of the consultation and body assessment, the treatment plan will be finalized. Schedule an appointment for a personal consultation to discuss the possibilities in this regard.

CoolSculpting is ideal for individuals with “pinchable fats”. SculpSure treatments are ideal for people with skin laxity and stubborn fat that is particularly resistant to diet and exercise. A body assessment is required in order to provide an accurate treatment plan. Some patients may also require two different treatment modalities for the different body areas.

Yes. It is possible to simultaneously undergo SculpSure and CoolSculpting procedures on the same day or in the same week, on different parts of the body.

Yes. The fat cells that are eliminated by CoolSculpting will not come back as they are permanently destroyed. However, it is important to also maintain the results by sticking to a healthy lifestyle.

Everybody is unique, the cost is dependent on variable factors;

  • The number of area(s) you would like to target
  • The size of the targeted area(s)
  • The type of fats
  • The patient’s desired results

A detailed body assessment is required in order to provide a suitable treatment plan and an accurate quote.

Post-treatment, a daily 10-minute gentle massage on the treated area helps accelerate the disposal of the disrupted fat cells from the body. Drink lots of fluids and also exercise moderately.

Since it’s a non-invasive procedure that doesn’t involve surgery or suturing of any kind, you don’t require any anesthetic for this treatment. During the procedure, all you’ll experience are intermittent phases of cold or hot temperatures – the heat of the laser energy, and the cool of the applicator on the skin to protect it and keep you comfortable.

Fat removal is possible through any of these three methods. Liposuction is a surgical treatment that has to be done under anesthesia and sucks out fat with the help of tubes inserted into the targeted fat areas. It is an invasive procedure and the recovery process is significantly long. On the other hand, CoolSculpting and Sculpsure are non-invasive, non-surgical FDA-approved procedures that use extremely low temperatures and high temperatures respectively to target the fat cells, denature them which the body naturally eliminates from the body.
